Patient Safety Network (PSNet)

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality
PSNet is a national web-based resource featuring the latest news, literature, tools, and essential resources on patient safety and offers a vast set of carefully annotated links to important research and other information on patient safety ("The Collection"). It provides access to WebM&M, a monthly journal of cases, commentaries, and perspectives on medical errors.  The Glossary section from the top menu bar is very helpful.

IHI is an independent organization working to improve healthcare systems worldwide. The website is organized to address the personal real-time needs of the user.  A Community Area has moderated discussion groups on many topics of interest.  Resources section offers tools to help you set up and document improvement projects, collect data on key measures, and keep track of changes. 

Joint Commission: Patient Safety
The Joint Commission has been a champion of patient safety by helping health care organizations to improve the quality and safety of the care they provide. 

National Patient Safety Foundation
This website provides the latest information on patient safety initiatives, research, and events. The numerous resources include a Patient Safety Bibliography, speaker service, patient Safety Store, and access Patient Safety Dictionary

Patient Safety Resource Center
Sponsored by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), the Resource Center fosters fail-safe medication use in health systems through the leadership of pharmacists.

VA National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS)
The NCPS was established in 1999 to develop and nurture a culture of safety throughout the Veterans Health Administration.  The website provides Safety Resources, Publications, Glossary, Training Initiatives, FAQ’s and links to other related websites.

World Alliance for Patient Safety
Sponsored by the United Nations World Health Organization, the Alliance delivers a number of programs covering systemic and technical aspects to improve patient safety around the world.  The website offers an Information Center, Research, Journal Library and Links to other websites.

MedlinePlus offers a free email subscription service that allows you to receive alerts by email when new information is available. During the sign-up process, you can specify how often you wish to receive emails from MedlinePlus.

CAPS is a consumer-led organization formed to be a collective voice for individuals, families, and healers who wish to prevent harm in healthcare encounters.  The website offers resources including news, articles, reports, book recommendations, and links to other related websites.
