The AHRQ is the lead Federal agency charged with improving the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of America’s health care and promote evidence-based decision making. Aavailable in Spanish


Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The CDC is the principal agency in the U.S. government for protecting the health and safety of Americans.  This web site has versions in English, Spanish, Chinese, French, German, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Italian, Korean, and Russian. A project of University of Washington Health Sciences Library, Ethnomed provides health information about cultural, medical, and other issues pertinent to the care of immigrant and refugee groups. EthnoMed is designed to be used in clinics by care providers in the few minutes before seeing a patient and has specific pages for more than 20 ethnic groups.

Healthfinder is a bilingual Web site for consumers; it links to selected information and Web sites from over 1,500 health-related organizations. 
On each page the user can toggle between the two languages. Available in Spanish


Health Information Translations
Sponsored by the Ohio State University medical Center, it is a collaborative initiative to improve health education for patients with limited English language proficiency.  The information, in PDF format, is written in both English and the language selected.  The site currently supports Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Hindi.


HealthyNJ – Information for Healthy Living
Sponsored by the University Libraries at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, this consumer portal provides links to quality Web sites around the world, and is divided into five sections: Health and Wellness, Diseases and Conditions, Just for Kids, Health in NJ, and Reference Desk.

This site contains free health education materials in a number of languages and a variety of  formats. A list of the content source for each individual topic can be found on the Sources page of the Web site.

The Hmong Health Education Network, a bilingual Web site, provides access to health information for Hmong people and those who provide health, education and social services to the Hmong community.

Multicultural Health Communication

Multicultural Communication provides a number of services to health professionals working with ethnic communities, including information and advice on appropriate ways to communicate with people of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

Multilingual Glossary of Technical and Popular Medical Terms in Nine European Languages
This web site, from the Heymans Institute of Pharmacology in Belgium, contains glossaries of technical and popular medical terms in eight of the nine official European languages: English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Danish. The information is accessible both alphabetically and by lemma (1830 concepts in all).

SPIRAL: Selected Patient Information Resources in Asian Languages

SPIRAL is a joint initiative of the South Cove Community Health Center and Tufts University Hirsh Health Sciences Library. The site provides consumer information in Cambodian/Khmer, Chinese, Hmong, Korean, Laotian, Thai, and Vietnamese.
