Online Databases

The library subscribes to various online databases through different vendors. Additional databases are added regularly. They may be accessed from the Library's Web site under the Databases section.

Most electronic services do not require a password when accessed from within the Marianjoy Hospital network. Others do require you to have a username and password; Please contact the library staff at (630) 909-7090 for help with these electronic resources.

Literature Searches

Your professional librarian will carry out a literature search from a variety of online indexes, abstracts, and bibliographic databases. This service is available to all Marianjoy staff, physicians, and residents. Priority will be given to those working on patient care. The search will produce references (citations) with an abstract or summary from various journals and other sources. Full text articles are not provided through this service. You may request for assistance in person, via telephone (630) 909-7092, or use Ask a Librarian service.

Turnaround Time

There are three levels of service for: Normal, Rush, and Urgent Patient Care; these levels indicate the urgency of the request.

For Rush and Urgent Patient-Care Requests, contact the library staff in person.

Notification

Patrons will be notified by phone or e-mail as soon as the searches are performed. Patrons may also check on the status of their searches by phone, e-mail, or in person. Searches will be delivered electronically or via inter-departmental mail or held in the library based on the patron’s preference.
